About The Map In My Pocket
The Map In My Pocket is built by SpatialProbe, a company making tools for exploring geospatial data. It started with one person's curiosity about the stories geospatial data can tell if you look closely enough -- Explore came first, then Photos, then Reviews -- and it's growing from there: a company building a set of tools around one idea, not a single app with a permanently fixed feature list.
Explore
A 3D globe for wandering the planet in real terrain and imagery, layered with data -- among others, Wikipedia points of interest, United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake activity, and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) records.
Photos
A home for your travel photos and short videos* -- geotagged, organised into collections, or turned into a journey by adding the GPS track that goes with them. A photo can anchor a place on Explore's own globe; a journey can retrace a real trip.
* You choose the license for each public upload -- from Creative Commons (anyone may reuse, including commercially, with credit) to all rights reserved (viewable here, not reusable elsewhere). Keep any upload private if you'd rather not share it at all.
Reviews
Real local business reviews and photos, UK-only for now -- browse freely, no account needed. Built the way review sites should work: never a paid boost into the results you actually see, whatever a business pays for.
What's next
These three are where SpatialProbe started, not where it stops -- more tools for exploring geospatial data are already in progress. All of them stay actively, constantly developed in the meantime -- new layers, datasets, and features ship regularly, not a fixed set frozen at launch.
